Essences of the Moon

The moon's enchanting influence over flora and fauna.
By Erinn Mallett

The moon's enchanting influence over flora and fauna.

Gaze to the sky.

Passion and poetry.

Science and splendor.

The Sun.

On full display – the showman of the heavens.

The alpha — that which the universe revolves — ablaze with razzle dazzle.

Domineering. Worshipped. Revered.

Though slightly bipolar.

Can’t live without it, but if you get too close, you will be burned.

The Moon.

Behind the scenes — the sigma of the solar system.

Just when it appears in full glory — slowly fades to black.

Independent. Confident. Intelligent.

This constant companion.

A trusted friend who never leaves – whether visible or not.

Its force will move oceans at will.

Raging tide – to placid sea.

The architect of time.

Moving clock hands through the hours of the day.

Grand accomplishments, but cares not to impress.

 This is the historian.

The keeper of secrets in the dichotomy of life.

Comfortable in the shadow of the Sun.

Lying in wait for a captive audience.

Albeit amorous or destructive.

The lovers who trace their sifting shapes under the radiant glow.

The warrior that launches covert attacks cloaked by the darkness of night.

In the garden…

It’s the enchanting influence over flora and fauna.

For as long as time, we have looked to the sky.

To show the way — the signs and the seasons.

A guide written in stone – saved next to the stars.

The treatise of tempo — when to plant, nourish, harvest.

The four phases of the moon are masterfully orchestrated.

Always changing. Yet perfectly consistent.

The new moon. The dark moon. The original Back in Black.

A time to plant above ground crops.

Water pulls to the surface of the soil encouraging seeds to sprout.

Dark moon moves to first quarter. The waxing phase. Growth.

Plants continue to thrive.

As the moonlight becomes stronger so does vitality.

The waxing turns the moon to full – luna plena.

Time to behold the beauty of the garden.

To admire flowering plants who showcase their charming blooms.

Last quarter. Waning. Diminishing.

The time to plant below ground root crops.

The time to harvest.

Slowly returning to dark.

The end of the cycle. And thus becomes the beginning. The wheel – the circle continues.

If you take a walk through the garden.

Under the lit night sky.

The moon – a few days from full.

Everything in its glow, an electric shade of blue.

Shines upon a magical scape that can be found

in a gadda da vida.
